3 Brand Marketing Mistakes You Should Avoid
1. Irrelevant content
It’s so easy to overlook, but posting content that is relevant to your target market is extremely important! After all – your customers are the ones keeping your business afloat. So how do you create and post content that will do you well on social media?
You want to start by putting your customer at the center of everything you do. Start by creating a profile of your target market – and I don’t mean their gender, age, and location. I mean – find out what their hobbies are, what they do on the weekend, what’s important to them, what is their personality type etc. These are all things that are closely wired together in their brains, and it’s what peaks their interests.
Here is an extended list of the things you should know about your customers:
- Where do they like to go on holiday?
- What are their hobbies?
- Describe their relationships.
- How do they handle stress?
- What is their primary personality type?
- What kind of sports are they into – if any?
- What’s their income?
The list could go on forever. What I’m trying to say is that when you know the answers to these questions you’re able to create content that relates to your target market. So that firstly – you get their attention. Secondly – you have an opportunity to introduce your product/service. Thirdly – they become loyal customers that are interested in your business.
Example: maybe your target market tends to be interested in cars. You could attend and sponsor car shows. This allows you to take pictures and create content for your social media which will be interesting to your target market in the future.
2. Not going mobile
This is a BIG one! Not only do you want your website to be mobile friendly for sake of accessibility. But you also need to go mobile friendly because advertising non-mobile websites are becoming increasingly expensive.
Not only do you need your website to “work” on mobile. But it needs to be optimised and seamless. We’ve all visited “mobile-friendly” websites on our phones that are simply slow and annoying to navigate – in which case we bounce. Once you’re potential customers bounce – you’ve lost them.
When you are thinking about redesigning your site to be mobile friendly; think about it as an app. Find your favorite mobile app and base your website structure off of that app. You’ll be surprised by the results!
3. Ignoring social media
This is the absolute worse thing you could do at this time. Social media marketing and advertising is extremely cheap at the moment, but it will only rise in price! Not only is it cheap to pay for advertising, but marketing organically is completely free! So even if you are unsure whether this is the right path for your business – you can try for the next 30 days to find how social media can fit into your business model.
You don’t have to be perfect when you first start. The best time you could’ve started your social media was 10 years ago, but the second-best time to start is now! So just create an account and see where it leads you.
